Tuition Grant Program

Tuition Grant Program is OPEN until May 30, 2026

Applications for the Tuition Grant Program for 2026 are now open.   Grants for tuition up to a maximum of $1000, are offered for members to attend a woodworking class, workshop, or apprenticeship at a recognized school, or with a recognized master. The purpose of the experience should be to introduce the participant to new woodworking skills, or to advance existing skills.  Note that there are a total of three grants available.  Two are funded through the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild and the third was generously donated by Mark Laub Studios.

Program Rules

The application is simple. Write an essay up to 300 words, answering the question, "How I will benefit from attending?" Also, please tell us, “How I will share my new knowledge with the rest of the Guild.”

  • An applicant must be a continuous member of the Guild between the time of the application and the completion of the class/workshop.
  • Recipients of grants may not apply for subsequent grants for 24 months after completion of a reimbursed program.
  • Current members of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild are ineligible for a grant. A past board member is ineligible for twelve months after leaving the Board.
  • The board will approve or reject the program and respond to the applicant within a reasonable period of time.
  • Applicants awarded the grants will be notified by e-mail.
  • A recipient must attend the program specified on his or her application to exercise the grant. No substitute programs will be accepted.
  • The grant must be exercised within 12 months of the award date. Un-exercised grant funds revert to the Guild treasury.
  • The Minnesota Woodworkers Guild will reimburse the recipient up to $1,000 toward tuition only upon presentation of documentation verifying the program was completed. Expenses other than tuition are not eligible for reimbursement. The Guild will pay tuition directly to the program if the recipient so requests.
